We’re glad you’re here. The real stars of community theatre are people just like you who commit their time, energy, and experience to help make theatre magic happen. Just as some folks prefer to be in the limelight onstage, others enjoy working behind the scenes. There are hundreds of ways to help and 99% of them require no memorization of lines.

About volunteering
Our theatre is volunteer-led. That means that everyone, from board members to ushers, donate their time toward hosting shows and maintaining the organization. As you can imagine, it’s a lot of work, but we think it matters. If you’re reading this, you have no doubt experienced what we call ‘theatre magic’ – that moment when a story or a song escapes the stage to move us to laughter, tears, and a shared sense of humanity. For over 80 seasons, people just like us have pitched in and helped sustain this community. You can, too.
We can’t list all the ways volunteers help, but here’s short list to get started.
- Ushering and concessions – the easiest way to get started and meet people
- Work Days – specially scheduled days to clean up an area of the theatre
- Set Construction crew – know how to use a hammer? You’re in!
- Set painting and production work
- Costumes and propmaking
- Technical support (lighting, sound, etc)
- Landscaping and maintenance
- and more!

About Memberships
Ever wonder who’s in charge at Footlighters? We all are! As a non-profit community theatre, decisions large and small are made by our members. Simply put, members are folks in the community who want to contribute to the future of Footlighters by helping to design the programs, policies, and goals of our collective work. Our Board of Directors are elected from the membership each year.
Members are involved in several key ways:
- Special votes for major expenses or changes to by-laws
- Annual meetings and celebrations
- Opportunity to serve on the Board of Directors and committees
- Members-only events
Annual memberships: $45 per person / $85 per couple
Memberships renew annually each July.
