Redlands Footlighters is thrilled to announce auditions for The 39 Steps, the Broadway hit adapted by Patrick Barlow from the novel by John Buchan. Auditions will be held July 15th and 16th at 7:00pm at the Redlands Footlighters Theatre, located at 1810 Barton Road in Redlands. Running September 12-29, 2013, this fun and energetic show for both audiences and actors kicks off our 68th season.

Award-winning director Kellie McDonald is seeking outgoing, comedic actors with lots of energy who can handle the fast-paced show. Casting three men and one woman, ages 20+.

Based on the famous Alfred Hitchcock movie, the play calls for the entire 1935 adventure film to be performed with a cast of only four. One actor plays the hero, Richard Hannay, an actress plays the three women with whom he has romantic entanglements, and two other actors play every other character in the show: heroes, villains, men, women, children, and even the occasional inanimate object.

In The 39 Steps, a man with a boring life meets a woman with a thick accent who says she’s a spy. When he takes her home, she is murdered. Soon, a mysterious organization called “The 39 Steps” is hot on the man’s trail in a nationwide manhunt that climaxes in a death-defying finale. A riotous blend of virtuoso performances and wildly inventive stagecraft, The 39 Steps amounts to an unforgettable evening of pure pleasure!

I would like to get back to acting alot but it has been a long time since I have acted. I am much older now and my ability to remember long script lines is my only concern. Do you have any words of encouragement?

The best I can suggest is to just jump right back in! Look for smaller roles where you can get back into the pool. Until then, find poems or the such to memorize and share with friends.
